PeopleSoft bundles SMB software

PeopleSoft has started bundling small business software, hardware and services through its fledgling channel. The software giant launched World Express Rapid Start in the US in May and is preparing to officially launch European and Asia-Pacific sales. The company’s A/NZ channels and alliances director, Bruce Armstrong, said that although there had been no formal launch of the combined packaged software and implentation service in Australia, it was available to partners. PeopleSoft is working on a launch in the Japan and Asia-Pacific sometime over the coming two quarters, but Armstrong said he could not be more specific when Rapid Start would officially arrive in Australia. World Express, PeopleSoft’s small-business offering, runs on IBM’s iSeries platform. Rapid Start bundles Big Blue’s AS400 server with industry-specific software, support and set-up services.

XP SP2 boosts channel security

The upcoming release of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) will give the channel new ways to expand their existing business by offering customers improved software security services and tools, the vendor claims. Forecast as a major upgrade to Windows XP, SP2 will include a raft of new features pertaining to network protection, memory protection, email security, and browsing security. Microsoft Australia senior product manager for Windows, Danny Beck, said channel partners could bundle these security enhancements into a value-added service for their customers. For example, there was a large amount of software upgrading corporate customers needed to do in order to run with SP2, Beck said. “Channel partners could provide security audits — or a best practice deployment of SP2,” he said. “They could bundle SP2, product management and security testing and onsell these to customers.” Beck said partners could also extend these services to cover third-party security products, such as antivirus software.
