Land Rover to drive Brightpoint sales

Brightpoint will hand over the keys to a new Land Rover Discovery under a new promotion aimed at boosting IT channel sales.

The loyalty-based Rewards scheme offers resellers points for purchases above $500. Each point qualifies as an entry into a weekly draw for IT products and vouchers. At the end of the six weeks, a major draw will give away a Land Rover Discovery, Searay 180 Sport Boat and trailer. The initiative would encourage resellers to consider Brightpoint as more than a mobile phone supplier, product market manager, Ettore Alterisio, said.

"We offer products like converged devices, iPod accessories and flash memory which fit in the IT channel," he said. "We want to raise awareness of our portfolio and offer those outside of our standard channels."

While Brightpoint had been expanding its IT range during the past year, the distributor was not about to leave its traditional mobile stongehold, Alterisio said.

"Our focus remains on the wireless market, but it is evolving to one which converges IT and telco products," he said.

The initiative, which was the first of four such promotions planned for the coming year, would also seek to increase reseller use of Brightpoint's online ordering system, Alterisio said.

"In the first week we have seen a doubling of applications to use the system," he said. "So the promotion has definitely had an impact."
