Massive government deals such as last week's Australian Tax Office's five-year, $400 million outsourcing tender don't come along every day. But, while outsourcing giant EDS picked up most of the kudos several Australian SMEs and resellers chipped in to secure over $100 million worth of ongoing business.
In fact, had EDS not included the likes of PC suppliers Ipex, BHP IT, Protech Australasia and Canberra Strategic Marketing, the outsourcer could not have provided the value-ad required to win what is the largest of the Federal Government's whole-of-IT outsourcing deals to date.
According to EDS officials, a strategic alliance has been struck with PC supplier Ipex, while teaming agreements have also been executed with Protech, Salmat Holdings and Canberra Strategic Marketing (CSM) for products and services. BHP IT will provide help desk services as part of the EDS service delivery team.
Other demands of the outsourcing tender include: the deployment of a standardised desktop/LAN environment; the implementation of an integrated voice/data network; and the provision of data warehouse services.
