Siemens is expected to sign Altech Computers for its PABX range as part of its first foray into IT distribution.
Altech managing director, Antony Sheen, said the agreement would position the distributor for a wave of VoIP enablement in the SMB market. It would also be prepared for a push into the consumer sector, he added.
The SMB range would be targeted at companies with less than 15 seats, where the ease of installation made it attractive to technology-shy businesses.
Altech has already commenced in-house training. It had also set up a new initiative engaging third-party providers to offer installation services, he said.
The appointment of a new distributor is part of an overall charge by Siemens into the SMB space.
Last month, the vendor announced it had signed Telestar to help push sales of its HiPath Micro products.
The vendor is also looking to appoint additional suppliers to build up its distribution channel. Siemens declined to comment on its plans.
