FalconStor’s VirtualTape Library Software Solution Receives “Ready for IBM Tivoli Software” Validation

 • 23 June, 2005 15:15

Sydney, Australia – June 23, 2005-FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), a leading developer of network storage infrastructure software solutions, today announced that the company’s award-winning VirtualTape Library (VTL) solution has successfully completed interoperability testing and has been validated Ready for IBM Tivoli®. This validation ensures that FalconStor’s VTL solution integrates seamlessly with IBM’s Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM).

“Customers are continually looking for ways to leverage their current storage investments and practices, and FalconStor’s VTL Appliance allows them to do so since it seamlessly integrates into an existing IT environment,” said Bernie Wu, FalconStor vice president of business development. “Combining our VTL solution with IBM’s storage products offers customers a compelling value proposition for heterogeneous end-to-end storage area network solutions.”

In order to attain Ready for IBM Tivoli validation, FalconStor was required to meet specific testing requirements to assess the compatibility and interoperability of its VTL solution with Tivoli Storage Manager. FalconStor’s VTL solution also received IBM’s TotalStorage Proven™ certification in August 2004, denoting that its VirtualTape Library solution has been tested with IBM’s TotalStorage DS4000 series, Enterprise 3494 Tape Library, Enterprise Tape Drive 3592 Model J1A, and 2109 Model S16 SAN Fibre Channel Switch, and validated to meet IBM interoperability standards.

FalconStor’s VirtualTape Library software, powered by the company’s award winning network storage software, IPStor® Enterprise Edition, consolidates the management of backup resources while enhancing the reliability of backup operations and accelerating the speed of recovery.

FalconStor’s VTL leverages industry standard high speed disk to provision virtual tape drives and libraries via Fibre Channel (FC), iSCSI or NDMP protocol to backup servers attached to an iSCSI/IP or FC storage area network to maximise performance and return on investment.

The Ready for IBM Tivoli program helps companies integrate their products with IBM’s IT Service Management solutions, which are designed to automate and standardise the way customers design and integrate IT processes.

Sharp Corporation in Osaka, Japan, a worldwide leader in the development and manufacture of electronic products, chose FalconStor’s VTL solution since it leverages their existing IBM Tape Library and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager solution. The VTL solution and tape drives are directly connected to the TSM server, and provide Sharp with a high-performance backup system with more flexibility for backup operations, while simplifying and accelerating the backup and restore process.
