In the aftermath of a reported net loss of $11.9 million for the year ending in March, HarTec has signalled its intentions to right the ship by establishing a new Data Communications/IT distribution business trading under the name of Earth To Air Technology (ETA Technology).
According to Avril Danes, ETA Technology's divisional CEO, the new business will distribute a range of leading network connection devices such as hubs, switches and NIC cards from the likes of Accton, 3Com, D-Link, AMP and Belden. ETA has also partnered with modem makers Hayes and NetComm.
The restructure follows a backlash from HarTec's board of directors and major shareholders in the middle of last year. They demanded that HarTec distance itself from providing high volume/ low margin LAN-based products to customers; that it invest in the implementation of a hi-tech IT distribution system; and that it expand and strengthen its management team. Also on HarTec's drawing board is the development of a Web site complete with e-commerce capability that is expected to be operational by September this year.
