Leading Solutions has donated more than $45,000 to the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University to assist its new research into pervasive computing.
The reseller grant has provided the University's Faculty of Information Technology with eight HP Tablet PCs; a docking station; two iPAQ handheld PCs; and four business inkjet printers.
The equipment will be used in the University's CoolCampus project. Manager of technical services, Muhamed Bekir, said the initiative was designed to further research activities into pervasive computing environments.
This involved advanced technologies such as wireless communication, wearable and handheld computers, smart spaces and smartcards, he said.
"The delivery of this mobility equipment is timely as we have a number of research projects that are currently underway, focused on RFID, Bluetooth, wireless LAN and so on," he said. "Being able to provide the infrastructure to support them will be a big help."
Leading Solutions managing director, Frank Colli, said the company had worked with Monash University for the past eight years.
"When we heard about their CoolCampus initiative, we understood the need to investigate alternative mobility technology and how it will evolve," he said. "Leading Solutions is pleased to be able to assist with this research."
