CommVault looks to develop channel skills

Storage vendor, CommVault, will roll out its first formal certification program for the channel during July in a bid to increase its sales reach.

The Enterprise Solution Partner (ESP) initiative was intended to qualify platinum partners across its product range to reduce the dependency on CommVault's small number of local staff, managing director A/NZ, Gerard Sillars, said.

"The majority of our resellers don't have the storage skill sets to deploy high-end storage systems," he said.

CommVault's channel setup comprises of OEMs, VADs and now ESPs (formerly its platinum partners). These include Volante, XSI and Commander. It distributes through ACA Pacific and the IDS Group in Queensland.

"We are not in the business of building our own professional services arm so we rely on our channel because our core business is selling software," Sillars said.

In conjunction with training in Sydney and Melbourne, there would also be a targeted marketing campaign that involves segmenting channel opportunities, he said. Other benefits of participation in the ESP initiative would be improved margins on certification.

Additional partners would be added before the year's end, Sillars predicted, with a national broad-based solution provider and a vertical specialist with Federal Government experience high on the wanted list.
