SYDNEY, June 14 – McAfee, Inc., the leader in Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, today unveiled McAfee Entercept support for Linux. With today's announcement, the McAfee Entercept server agent now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, in addition to existing platform support for Windows and Solaris. The introduction of McAfee Entercept protection for Linux is part of the company's larger strategy to provide comprehensive and proactive, multi-platform security solutions including Linux. On June 7, the company announced enhancements to McAfee LinuxShield, offering customers comprehensive virus protection for their Linux systems.

As a widely adopted alternative to other common operating systems among IT professionals, the Linux platform has been broadly deployed for internal as well as web-facing applications, and runs a variety of critical business applications, including accounting, databases and file/print servers. McAfee Entercept for Linux provides comprehensive, proactive protection to ensure the security, integrity and availability of all applications running on the Linux platform.

"McAfee customers demand comprehensive and uniform protection for their computing infrastructure and the introduction of McAfee Entercept for Linux exemplifies our commitment to providing proven multi-platform solutions that exceed our customers security needs," said Allan Bell, Asia Pacific Marketing Director, McAfee, Inc.
McAfee Entercept is the industry's only host IPS to combine both behavioural rules and intrusion prevention signatures. With added protection for Linux users, Entercept provides unmatched proactive threat protection with key features including:

-- Comprehensive buffer overflow prevention for all installed applications

-- Unique application shielding and enveloping developed to protect system and application file manipulation
