- Dimension Data Targets 40,000+ SQL Australian Database Market; New Appointment Announced -

Sydney, 1 June 2005 – Dimension Data today announced its Managed SQL service and SQL Server Consulting and Professional Services. The expanded offering is a result of Dimension Data’s acquisition of the SecureData Group’s business, including its 51 per cent share in New Zealand-based SQL Services.

The Managed SQL service includes specialised proactive database administration (DBA) specifically designed for the Microsoft SQL Server environment, as well as a web-based SQL Dashboard for real-time monitoring and alerting to ensure maximum uptime and visibility for critical SQL applications.

The combination of proactive management of SQL-based environments and SQL consulting allows clients to minimise the risks of downtime and optimise the performance of SQL databases. Clients can choose from a flexible range of managed services to support their Microsoft SQL environment.

Dimension Data’s SQL Consulting and Professional Services draws on the company’s experience in database development and operational environments to offer clients accredited consultation on SQL Server audits, performance tuning, strategic directions, consolidation and disaster recovery.

In line with the introduction of this service offering, Dimension Data has appointed SQL Services founder and CEO Colin Andersen to the position of national database practice manager. In this role, Colin is responsible for developing and managing the SQL Service practice in Australia as well as working with other regions to roll out these solutions to Dimension Data clients internationally.

“These new offerings demonstrate Dimension Data’s ability to offer highly-specialised managed services,” said Brett Oberstein, national business manager, managed services, Dimension Data. “These managed services have been designed in response to our clients' need for continual improvement from their IT environment. It is a ‘more than just on’ approach that is often required from a managed service - not only ensuring operational continuity but also providing services to optimise the environment. We can offer clients access to a first-class skill set, delivering both breadth of service and support for their SQL environments which allows them to focus on running their business and not their technology.”

“In addition, small and medium organisations with limited technical skills around SQL now have access to services that only large organisations have been able to afford until now.”

“The SQL environment locally is a big opportunity and we are now looking to capitalise on what is a 40,000 plus SQL database market in Australia.”

Dimension Data already has a number of Australian clients for these new services, including JB Hi-Fi, the Just Group, Guild Insurance & Financial Services Holdings Limited and Newcrest Mining. In New Zealand, SQL Services currently manages over 2,500 SQL databases.
