Former Tech Pac staffer, Edwin Tien, has been appointed as Maxtor country manager just four months after starting a new job as marketing manager with ViewSonic.
He will be responsible for business development and marketing but said strengthening channel relations would be a priority.
Several new initiatives were currently being worked on to promote Maxtor product through its established distribution partners, Tien said.
It distributes its OEM drives through Ingram Micro, eSys Integrated and Achieva, while its branded range goes through ACA Pacific.
A Very Important Partner royalty program would be launched in Q3 to promote its IDE and SCSI hard disks, he said.
The program would involve reward points, product bundles and marketing support. Extending Maxtor's range into further down into the systems builder channel was another important strategy, Tien said.
Australian consumers were early adopters of personal storage, Tien said, and this put Maxtor in a good position to grow its brand presence.
