F5 expands channel commitment

In a bid to boost its local channel expansion, F5 has nominated security systems company, Firewall Systems, as a distributor for its range of products.

Recently appointed Firewall Systems CEO, Scott Frew, said the deal would allow Firewall systems to construct a range of security solutions using complimentary security products.

“I have been looking for products that would naturally add value to our existing range and ultimately to increase the ability of our resellers to secure their customer’s data,” he said.

For example, F5’s TrafficShield product, which is specifically designed to protect application servers, was a logical add-on to the Mxtreme product from BorderWare which specifically protected email servers, he said.

The deal marks F5’s first foray into sourcing additional distributors – until now Tech Pacific has had exclusive distribution of F5 products in Australia.

F5 managing director, Les Howarth, is hoping that the change will open up new avenues for the company and complement the relationship with Tech Pacific.

“We will be making contact with a set of resellers that we haven’t been exposed to before,” Howarth said. “Tech Pacific appeals to the general market whereas Firewall Systems is a focused distributor looking for partners to build a very specific security stack.”

In addition to stocking F5’s complete product set, Firewall would also provide services and maintenance, Frew said.

“These are a critical part to these complex devices,” he said.

Its other vendor partners include WatchGuard, BorderWare, Vasco, Network Box, FiberLogic and St Bernard.

F5 has appointed Greg Barnes to the newly-created role of business development manager to manage the distribution deal and work on building a larger base of resellers for its traffic management solutions.
