Microsoft Australia appoints new Server Business Group Director

<p>Sydney – 4 August 2004 – Microsoft Australia has announced the appointment of Tony Ward to the role of Director, Server Business Group.</p>
<p>Mr Ward joins Microsoft’s Australian operations from its New Zealand subsidiary, where he most recently held the position of Director of Marketing. Prior to that he was Group Manager, Developer and Platform Strategy, and played a key role in driving the adoption of the Microsoft .NET platform among local businesses and developers in New Zealand.</p>
<p>Mr Ward is responsible for communicating the value proposition of the Microsoft platform and servers to Australian businesses and helping customers prepare for technology and business change. He is responsible for marketing of the Windows Server System, which includes Windows Server 2003, Exchange Server 2003, SQL Server 2000 and BizTalk Server 2004.</p>
<p>“I am excited about the move to Australia and will work hard to help our customers understand the value that Microsoft’s servers offer. Part of my charter will be to continue to grow the IT professional community and help them understand the security aspects of the Windows Server System,” said Mr Ward.</p>
<p>Steve Vamos, Managing Director, Microsoft Australia said: "This is a key role within Microsoft Australia. The leadership skills that Tony demonstrated in his previous role in New Zealand will be instrumental in communicating and implementing the Microsoft server message in Australia."</p>
<p>Mr Ward joined Microsoft New Zealand in November 2000. Prior to that he worked for esolutions (a joint venture between Telecom New Zealand, Microsoft and EDS), Telecom Internet Services (Xtra) and Advantage Group Limited.</p>
<p>After representing his country as a cyclist in the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, Mr Ward migrated to New Zealand from Canada in 1994. He was a professional sportsman for five years and a four time Canadian cycling champion. He moved to Australia in July 2004.</p>
