Siemens has appointed Telestar as a Platinum Business Partner to distribute its IP solutions to the SMB space.
General manager of enterprise, David Healy, said the appointment was part of plans to build a new channel for its HiPath Micro products in the up to 30 seat VoIP market.
The vendor was also looking for communications resellers, he said, and would make further partner announcements shortly.
Siemens was also planning to introduce wireless network products to the channel acquired through purchase of Canadian-based, Chantry Networks, in January, Healy said.
Telestar focuses on mobile data telecommunications, data consultancy, fixed-line communications and systems integration. The Sydney-based provider joins other Platinum Business Partners, TAMCO and VCA.
Telestar managing director, Sam Ayad, said that partnering with a major enterprise vendor such as Siemens was an important growth objectives. The company had also researched offerings from Avaya, Cisco and Alcatel, he said.
"What we liked about Siemens was its small channel because it is very selective about who it chooses," he said.
The platinum level agreement was awarded because of Telestar's experience in local area networks, Ayad said.
The company planned to market the Siemens VoIP solution to its existing customer base initially and would seek out new customers later in the year, he said.
