Axios provides healthy return for medical manufacturer

 • 04 March, 2005 14:56

Axios Systems (, the international Help Desk and IT Service Management software specialist, has underlined the health of its business in the USA by winning a contract from the world’s largest outsource developer and manufacturer of sterile, single-use medical devices.

Avail Medical Products Inc. (, which has its global headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, will use Axios’ assyst software to support its rapidly growing IT infrastructure. This is further success for Axios’ Redwood City, California, office.

“Over the past eight years we’ve grown from a $10m to a $220m turnover per annum organization and needed to upgrade our IT infrastructure and support capabilities to cope with that,” Avail Medical’s IT Director Dale Dean commented.

He said Axios was selected over shortlisted rivals because it could incorporate and integrate all disciplines in the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL - internationally accepted guidelines for Best Practice in IT Service Management) and provide all necessary modules. “ITIL is the ideal framework on which to base our processes, and Axios came closest to meeting its specifications,” he went on.

Avail’s existing software was basically an incident tracking system with no facilities for Change Management, Dean said. The company will also use assyst’s Incident, Problem, Configuration, Release and Service Level Management capabilities. The product will help ensure software licence compliance via the Configuration Management Database.

The company has 19 locations in the USA and Mexico, and in January announced it had begun building a new manufacturing facility in Shenzen, China, scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2005. Avail employs more than 3,500 staff worldwide.

“We need to manage large and growing assets in multiple languages”, Dean said. “Axios’ support of Blackberry devices and a Spanish Web interface were key”. Their team have been a pleasure to deal with and have gone out of their way to understand and respond to our specific requirements.”

Ross McIntosh, Axios Systems’ Vice-President for North America, commented: “Many businesses in Texas are rapidly adopting the ITIL philosophy. Since assyst has been developed from inception around ITIL principles, we are confident of winning customers’ trust and developing more customer partnerships, following the path of Best Practice, in the state and across North America where we continue to expand our customer base and presence.”
