SonicWall has hired its first dedicated channel manager to assist its Australasian reseller base.
The vendor has appointed former Sophos business development manager, Chris Barton, to the post. Country manager, Tim Dickinson, said the role was created to provide more support to accredited partners.
"We're finding that demand for our products is increasing so much that we needed to have additional assistance internally for our partners," he said. "We've had issues meeting these."
Barton said his first task would be to ramp up end-user demand for its gateway products.
While the vendor had strong success in the SMB space, its new products also provided partners the opportunity to break into the mid-tier and enterprise markets, he said.
"One of the first things I'll be doing is driving our volume sales," he said. "Over the next couple of quarters I'll be working on generating demand with the end-users, which we can distribute back to partners."
Although he would welcome new partners to the SonicWall stable, Barton said he would first look at strengthening its relationship with existing resellers. The vendor is now staging a national roadshow for partners on its new and upcoming products.
Barton said it would also use this opportunity to provide resellers with demand generation kits, as well as additional information on its Managed Security Services Program.
It was also working with several partners on joint sessions to further promote the SonicWall range, he said.
Barton previously worked at Sophos as a business development manager for enterprise, government and corporate. His primary focus had been on helping partners construct antivirus, gateway and anti-spam solutions. Barton has also worked in business application development and managed security services.
