New services from Hewlett-Packard secure

 • 09 May, 2005 10:48

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has ramped up security services for small to medium businesses (SMBs), announcing the immediate availability of tailor-made offsite data back-up and dedicated security server solutions.

HP’s SURE PC service provides data back-up and recovery within minutes over the Internet, and is the only SMB-priced offering of its type on the market. This service offers either manual or convenient automated back-up, in order to simplify processes typically associated with complexity and high expenditure. Data is kept safe and secure at an offsite environment and information is encrypted to SSL Encryption standard before being sent across the Internet. Each user is currently allocated up to one Gig of storage space for key data back-up.

HP’s SAFE SC service offers a pre-configured dedicated security appliance installed on the edge of a network. Pre-installed firewall, anti-virus and anti-spam software automatically protects the entire network without the need for any individual user intervention. It has been designed to combat the growing threat of viruses, bots and worms as well as guard against spam and external intrusion.

Both services offer low cost, low risk and low complexity solutions to minimise external security threats and keep data safe anywhere in the world.

Cyrus Pestonji, SMB Business Development Manager, HP Technology Services said: “We are responding to strong market demand for security services designed for SMB’s business needs and budgets.

“SMB customers have told us about the services they need and many of them are similar to those that large companies request, but tailored to SMB requirements. HP SURE PC and HP SAFE SC form part of our HP Smart Office SMB offering, launched in Australia just over a year ago.

“These solutions have been designed to remove the ‘fear, uncertainty, and doubt’ factor for SMBs. They provide a level of service that is usually only available to enterprise sized companies with the IT budgets to match. The way these solutions are structured means that service levels can remain high, whilst complexity and price remain low.”

HP has also simplified support headaches through HP SAFE SC by giving SMBs one point of contact for anti-virus and anti-spam calls instead of one for software and another for hardware. This decreases the time taken for basic problem resolution and reduces the time companies are vulnerable to external attacks.

HP SURE PC costs $275 (inc GST) per user effective for a three year license, and between April and June 2005 HP SURE PC is available free on all HP Compaq nx and dx business notebooks and desktops. HP SAFE SC costs half the price of its nearest competitor, starting at $3,500 for smaller customers, is priced significantly below other competitive offerings in the market.

HP SURE PC and HP SAFE SC are available through HP’s 3,500 strong channel community.
