Unwired has stepped into the channel, appointing Tecksel as the first distributor of its wireless broadband products.
The new agreement will see the distributor supply Unwired wireless modems, as well as provide support and training to resellers.
Unwired general manger of sales, Emma Pearce, said it had chosen Tecksel for its ability to tap into the small business market.
"We feel this is the best way to get into that market," she said. "We see this channel as a fantastic complement to our existing retail channel. There are about 2500 resellers in Sydney, so it hard to tell how big this market will grow."
Tecksel director, Mark Kofahl, said it had originally worked with Unwired to provide Netgear equipment for its initial retail promotions. The new deal was brought about by the success of this relationship, he said.
"We were waiting in the wings for this deal," Kofahl said.
All interested resellers are required to attend a two-hour evening training session at Tecksel's offices.
The product, which retails for $189, offered resellers a margin of about 30 points, Kofahl said.
Pearce said Unwired had received about 250 registrations from resellers interested in selling its products.
All had been sent an email this week offering them the opportunity to source the product and support from Tecksel, she said. Unwired had not set a limit on the number of resellers it would sign up.
Kofahl said the first introductory session of 30 places was already booked out, with a third of those resellers new to the distributor. While monthly sessions were planned, the frequency would be increased if demand dictated it.
The distributor was now in discussions with Unwired to bring its June training session forward, Kofahl said.
