Avalanche has become the first Australian distributor for Grisoft's AVG range of antivirus software.
Prior to the partnership, the Czech Republic-based vendor had dealt with its Australian and New Zealand dealers directly, Avalanche director of business development, Peter Cameron, said. This meant resellers needed to contact the vendor's head office for technical support.
Under the new arrangement, Grisoft will direct its 700 existing Australian and 200 NZ resellers to Avalanche, he said.
Cameron said the AVG product had originally been recommended to him by a reseller.
"We liked what we saw, so we made contact with them and have been in communications for the last nine months over the deal," he said. "It works nicely together with our other products and is not competitive."
The software, which is suited to SMEs with around 200 users, was also based around a two-year licensing plan, thereby creating closer ties with the reseller, he said.
While the deal is not officially exclusive, Cameron said Avalanche would remain the sole distributor of the AVG range if it meets performance targets. He predicted Avalanche sales would double, and possibly even triple, during the next two years.
As an incentive for existing Grisoft resellers, Cameron said Avalanche would be offering the software for the same price as Grisoft with GST included. Joint marketing campaigns will also be offered shortly, he added.
Avalanche is also planning to stage its first reseller conference in October or November this year, Cameron said. The event will include information about the AVG products, as well as its other software products including pdfFactory and FinePrint, he said.
