• 04 April, 2005 12:08

SYDNEY, Australia – Optima Technology Solutions (ASX:OPI), the leading Australian computer manufacturer, has appointed Tony Maguire as Education Team Leader for Queensland and Northern Territory.

Maguire is responsible for growing Optima’s core education business, engaging with key influencers in government, at ministerial and senior management levels, to strengthen Optima’s position as an essential technology partner for strategic education initiatives. He has also been tasked with managing assigned sales targets, relationship and business development, nurturing existing major accounts in the non-government sector, and identifying new business opportunities in the region.

“I have been fortunate in my career to see first-hand some of the most innovative and effective IT-rich learning environments in Australia, and I hope that along with my Optima team, I can infuse the work we’re doing in Queensland and Northern Territory with a deeper understanding of what a successful partnership is able to achieve,” said Maguire.

“Education customers, for example, want a technology partner that’s able to move beyond the box and engage with them to deliver improved outcomes for students, teachers and the wider community.”

Prior to joining Optima, Maguire was Business Development Manager at Apple Computer Australia, responsible for developing partnerships for the company both in and outside the government sector. He was also Director and Principal Consultant for Core Consultancies, a professional development and training company, and has worked as a teacher for 14 years.

“Having already become one of Education Queensland’s largest technology partners, we are dedicated to building and developing new and existing relationships in education communities throughout Australia. We will continue to focus on this sector as a vital and strategic part of the business,” said Cornel Ung, Executive Chairman and Managing Director, Optima Technology Solutions.

“Tony brings with him many years of business development experience with major government and education organisations in Queensland and Northern Territory, and is intimately familiar with the challenges and opportunities available to us in the region. I have every confidence he will lead his team to great success in promoting the business-critical, value-added solutions Optima continues to deliver its education customers.”

Maguire has been a keynote speaker at numerous events and conferences, most recently at the Victorian Technology Teachers Association (VITTA) Education Conference held in November last year, of which Optima was a main sponsor. A feature of the 90-minute address was the discussion of online learning and a videoconference that he set up and supported with leading academics and industry practitioners.
