Mitel joins channel forces with ProCurve

HP's ProCurve and convergence vendor, Mitel, are looking to double local partner numbers following the launch of a new channel marketing alliance campaign.

Mitel country manager, Gwilym Funnell, said the two organisations currently had 15 integrators accredited in both product sets but would look to double that within six months.

The latest joint campaign will see the two provide combined pre- and post-sales support across all products. These include ProCurve's Adaptive Edge Architecture and Mitel's IP phones and equipment.

According to Funnell, the offering follows a global agreement struck between the two parties last year to establish joint solutions for the convergence market. The two vendors had already commenced mutual research and development initiatives to improve interoperability between the two platforms, he said.

Both were now engaged in ensuring partners were skilled up in delivering a fully integrated data and telephony network, he said.

"A lot of the SI channel will wither on the vine as they have not jumped into IP telephony, or they don't have the data skills," Funnell claimed. "They will miss out on a significant part of business moving forward.

"We're looking after our existing partners by having them accredited in HP and Mitel. We're also working with HP's channel to ensure they are now certified with us."

Some of those now accredited with both vendors included ComputerCorp, Netcom and Secure Agility.

However, Funnell said it was also keen to introduce new integrators to its partner mix. Ideal new recruits would also boast of skills in Microsoft or Citrix platforms, he said.

As part of the new initiative, the pair have launched a promotional campaign offering resellers a free layer two switch with every ProCurve and Mitel IP combined system sold. Any HP partners or new integrators signing up to either vendor will also have access to free training on Mitel solutions.

Funnell said a range of partner programs were now underway and further channel incentives would also be developed.
