Fuji Xerox Printers Gets Down and Dirty for World Environment Day

Plants 500 native trees in Canberra

SYDNEY – 19 May 2004 – Five hundred native trees and shrubs will be planted tomorrow in Canberra as part of Fuji Xerox Printers’ environmental initiative program. The planting is being undertaken in partnership with Greening Australia in the lead-up to World Environment Day on 5 June.

On Thursday, 20 May, a team of 30 community volunteers and FXP staff members will plant the trees and shrubs along the banks of Holdens Creek below Mount Stromlo, an area that was badly degraded in the Canberra bushfires of January 2003 and is currently being replanted through the efforts of Greening Australia.

“The planting is only one of many initiatives FXP has undertaken to support the environment. We’ve also developed our products to be eco-friendly, gained the first Australian accreditation as a good environmental product and been recognised as an environmentally progressive manufacturer by the Australian Environmental Labelling Association,” said Peter Diprose, Regional Environment Manager, Fuji Xerox Printers.

“We are constantly looking for ways to strive for eco-conscious excellence in all areas of our business. There has been a huge amount of effort dedicated to our recent ISO 14001 certification across Asia Pacific and all of the company environmental policies that go with it.”

FXP has also committed funds for Greening Australia to direct seed 5,500 native trees and shrubs in Spring 2004 to ensure ongoing support of the area.

“Besides the environmental benefits of restoring an area devastated by bushfire and subject to soil erosion, the ACT Forests land below Mount Stromlo has strong social benefits for the area’s residents, who are keen to see vegetative cover restored to a landscape they use for recreation and other purposes,” said Toby Jones, ACT & SE NSW Executive Officer, Greening Australia.

“It is wonderful to see a Sydney-based organisation that is concerned enough about the environment to devote funds for bush regeneration and also send a team of their employees to do the hands-on work,”
said Jones.

As an eco-friendly company, Fuji Xerox Printers has an environment policy that includes the following company-wide initiatives:
Recently certified as ISO 14001 compliant for an Environmental Management System, meaning all of FXP Asia Pacific fully complies with relevant environmental legislation
The development of printer products recognised for energy efficiency and low environmental impact
‘Good Environmental Choice Product’ labelling accreditation from the Australian Environmental Labelling Association for the Phaser 8200 solid ink printer
New printers have ‘Eco Mark’ certification and use the lowest power consumption in their class
A dedicated environmental manager who is committed to setting targets and driving environmental policies

Photography of the tree planting will be available on Friday, 21 May. For photography, please email
