Sony has released five new Atrac CD Walkman players, all with the ability to play back standard audio CDs on both ATRAC3plus and MP3 encoded CD-R/RW discs. The ATRAC3plus format is a high-quality audio compression technology developed by Sony. With ATRAC3plus compression, more audio files can be burned to a disc using a PC’s CD-ROM drive. Music can be burned and compressed to 256, 132, 105, 66, 64 or 48kpbs. By compressing at 48kbps, users can store up to 490 songs on one disc. The product line starts with a basic entry level model and goes through to a top-of-the-line model. All five models include virtually skip-free G-protection technology. They also support CD text and ID3 tagging for organising tracks. Sony’s Jog Dial control and extended battery life are also incorporated.
RRP: Entry Level $179; Slim LCD remote $229; Ultra Stylish $269; Edgy Design $329; Top of the Line $369.
