Bonland Dairies can call until the cows come home thanks to 3Com and KAZ

<p>Overheads Drop, Productivity Increases with 3Com® IP telephony and LAN Switches, Total ROI Expected within Six Months of Rollout</p>
<p>Australia, 30 June, 2004 – Bonland Dairies has implemented 3Com® NBX® IP telephony solutions across its two Victorian sites to cut costs and increase infrastructure growth potential.</p>
<p>A fully-owned subsidiary of New Zealand’s Fonterra Co-operative Group, Bonland Dairies encompasses the brands Bega, Bodalla, Mainland, Western Star and Perfect Italiano. The company has an annual turnover of approximately AU$600 million with 200 people located at Bayswater and Rowville in Victoria, Australia.</p>
<p>Bonland Dairies refreshed its network with 3Com partner KAZ Technology Services, doing away with clunky PABX to live up to its motto of “leading the way in dairy” by ensuring the most efficient operation possible. Aside from significantly reducing the telephone bill, IP telephony allows Bonland Dairies staff to easily access the network remotely, doing away with site visit down-time and increasing teleworker effectiveness.</p>
<p>“Bonland’s executive has very strict rules governing approval of technology spend,” commented Peter Kalokathis, IS manager, Bonland Dairies. “Unless we can show a strong return on investment, usually at least 10 per cent positive, a proposal won’t be approved. This isn’t an issue with the solution offered by KAZ and 3Com as complete monetary return on our investment is expected within six months of total rollout.”</p>
<p>After initially looking at a range of equipment from Cisco and Avaya, Bonland Dairies decided to go with 3Com because of the favourable price offered and extensive product features. According to Kalokathis, “KAZ offered us 3Com equipment at a reasonable price with no surprises. Since we’ve had nothing but great service from KAZ and the 3Com product met our expectation, we couldn’t say no.”</p>
<p>The network refresh undertaken by KAZ Technology Services also deployed 3Com’s SuperStack® Switch 4900 and XRN™ technology to further increase resiliency and reliability of Bonland Dairies’ network infrastructure.</p>
<p>“KAZ Technology Services understand the needs of companies such as Bonland when moving from an outdated PABX to cost-saving IP telephony equipment,” said David Richardson, enterprise director, 3Com ANZA. “Bonland knew it needed to change to maintain a lean operation and 3Com, through KAZ, has helped them achieve this.”</p>
<p>With pre-purchase research revolving around peer recommendation and IT publication editorial, Bonland Dairies planned for the move last financial year, receiving approval and instigating rollout in the space of three months.</p>
<p>“The process has not been disruptive to workflow, with no productivity lost during changeover,” concluded Kalokathis. “The new system means no patching is required for new seats, people can move about the office while keeping existing extensions, our ‘phone bill drops and we don’t have to call in a third party to program in changes every time we alter our set-up, which was the case with PABX.</p>
<p>“3Com’s solution also runs on its own operating system, so we don’t have to worry about mysterious system crashes experienced with the dominant software providers.”</p>
