NETGEAR supports ADSL2+, the future of ADSL

 • 12 August, 2004 09:51

Sydney, Australia (August 12, 2004) – NETGEAR (Nasdaq: NTGR), a leading provider of easy-to-use, high-performance networking products, is enhancing the performance and future functionality of its products via an ADSL2+ chipset that improves the rate and reach of traditional ADSL.

Ratified by the International Telecommunications Union, ADSL2+ is a new standard that delivers innovative features and functionality for improved ADSL performance and interoperability. As a market leader, NETGEAR is incorporating ADSL2+ into its current range of modem integrated products.

ADSL2+ increases ADSL download speeds from eight Megabits per second to up to 24 Megabits per second. It is also able to overcome the interference that can occur over long lines through an enhanced signal processing algorithm, allowing users located further away from the exchange to get a better connection.

All NETGEAR products featuring ADSL2+ chipsets will also be able to take advantage of potential future capabilities of Internet service providers (ISPs) and carriers, which include bonded ADSL connections, Video on Demand and Voice over DSL services.

The latest NETGEAR product to feature the ADSL2+ chipset is the DG632 ADSL Modem Router - a combination two-port router, modem and firewall that plugs directly into any ADSL line for instant connectivity. Compatible with all Australian ISPs and carriers, the DG632 features:

- Built-in Port Forwarding settings and Virtual Private Network pass-through, making it easy to play games, send instant messages and host Internet services;
- IP1149 certification, ensuring that it is technically compliant with Telstra’s ADSL network;
- Stateful Packet Inspection and Network Address Translation for advanced network protection;
- Simultaneous Ethernet and USB connectivity;
- Smart Wizard installation assistant for automatic detection and connection to the broadband service provider.

The DG632 ADSL Modem Router is available throughout Australia from NETGEAR’s value-added resellers at the RRP $149 inc. GST. This product comes with NETGEAR’s standard three-year warranty, with increased technical support also available with NETGEAR's advanced warranty.
