Services Briefs: Yahoo and Destra, HP

Yahoo, Destra target SME market

Destra Corporation and Yahoo A/NZ have joined forces to launch a new co-branded service designed to strengthen their position in the SME market place. The service will use Destra’s Web hosting and domain registration services subsidiary, OzHosting.com. Marketed under the co-brand YahooOzHosting, the initiative will offer products specifically tailored to the Australian SME market. Products will be available through smallbusiness.yahoo.com.au and ozhosting.com. The partnership is an exclusive agreement between Yahoo and Destra that allows Destra to have use of the Yahoo name. “Yahoo was looking to expand into the Asia-Pacific market,” Destra chief executive officer, Domenic Carosa, said. “Effectively, Yahoo has licenced its brand to us. This is one of only three such agreements that Yahoo has in the world.” Yahoo also holds exclusive agreements with British Telecom and US-based SBC Communications. Carosa sees this as a huge opportunity for his business. “Basically, the Australian hosting market needs a brand leader,” he said. “Yahoo has one of the most recognisable brands in the country. By aligning ourselves with Yahoo we believe that, in the long-term, we can capture the lion’s share of the hosting market.”
