CSC wins $20 million contract

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has won a $20 million, three-year contract with Xstrata Queensland, the Australian operation of Anglo-Swiss mining giant Xstrata.

The company has chosen to go direct, without partnering with any third-party service providers. Under the contract the IT outsourcer will be responsible for all IT infrastructure and applications, including office server management, application support, and LAN and email management.

CSC will also manage the help desk and resolve any technology problems through its global management centre in Sydney. The contract will cover Xstrata Copper Australia’s Brisbane head office, its Mount Isa complex, the Ernst Henry and Townsville refineries and the McArthur River lead and zinc operation, as well as the Ravenswood and Xstrata Coal Queensland facilities in Brisbane and at Oaky Creek.

Xstrata Copper general manager for administration and services, John Coldham, said the contract was awarded to CSC to achieve ongoing value for the company while building on the existing strategy and architecture.

“CSC was selected because of its strong value contribution, extensive global capability and organisational structure.” he said.
