Toshiba gets even more mobile with 3

Melbourne, 4 March 2005: Toshiba (Australia) Pty Limited Information Systems Division (ISD), market leader in mobile computing, has announced it will offer 3’s NetConnect Card to increase mobility for notebook customers.

Toshiba customers simply insert 3’s NetConnect Card into the PCMCI slots of their notebook for immediate high-speed wireless internet connectivity in 3’s Video Zones (available in most areas throughout Australian capital cities and the Gold Coast).

The NetConnect Card transfers IP packet data with download speeds of up to 384kbps on 3’s network (within 3’s Video Zones*). This is roughly six times faster than remote access dial up# and nine times faster than typical GPRS mobile data.

Toshiba ISD and 3 expect particular demand from mobile workers and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), such as real estate agents, sales consultants, and financial planners, looking for an affordable and easy wireless broadband option.

Mark Whittard, general manager: Australia and New Zealand, Toshiba ISD said, “Toshiba customers now have another option for wireless connectivity, enabling them to more efficiently and productively use their time whilst out of the office. With the availability of easy-to-use, high-speed mobile internet solutions, such as the NetConnect Card flexible working is set to be the preferred mode of working amongst SMEs.”

Hutchison’s 3 NetConnect cards are now available through Toshiba Authorised Resellers. Please contact Toshiba on 13 30 70 or for further information.

* Download speeds of up to 384kbps are attainable in 3's Video Zone and download speeds of up to 40kbps are attainable in 3’s Messaging Zone.
# Comparison is with 56 kbps dial-up modem
