EDS appoints government executive

EDS has appointed Mike Smith as executive director of its Federal Government activities in Australia.

Smith said the role involved managing EDS’ business with the federal government, including the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and the Australian Customs Service (ACS).

Smith will lead EDS’ delivery and sales teams of 500 people within Canberra.

He works with areas of government involved with establishing and managing policy that relates to EDS business and will meet regularly with the department of communications and IT to discuss industry development programs.

Smith said that EDS had potential for substantial growth opportunities in Canberra.

“There is a global shift to solutions consulting and business process outsourcing, areas in which EDS has demonstrated an advantage,” he said.

“By extending our current range of services, we [EDS] aim to build on our relationship with existing clients as well as secure new contracts.”

EDS has renewed a $126 million contract with the ACS and extended a $300 million contract with the ATO.
