Seeing is believing - and business is booming

<p>Sydney, Australia - (April 6, 2004) When you buy and sell fruit and vegetables by the truckload it is a huge help to be able to see exactly what is on the table - from apples to zucchinis.</p>
<p>Moraitis, regarded as one of Australia’s largest suppliers of fresh fruit &amp; vegetables, believes its new Polycom video conferencing system, supplied by e-Video, has helped streamline, reduce costs and create efficiencies within the business.</p>
<p>“We buy and sell hundreds of tonnes of produce every week and as you can imagine our industry is quite volatile, things are always changing, the weather, the seasons, quality, availability, so constant communication is a must,” said Director, Paul Moraitis.</p>
<p>“Video conferencing allows our people in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland to get together at any time to work out our buying strategy - on a company wide level - to make sure we get our customer the best produce at the best price.</p>
<p>“We work out what we’re buying, from whom and at what price. Bang it’s done. And if we have a problem, say with a shipment of potatoes, we can hold up a potato and instantly everyone knows what’s going on.</p>
<p>“Document collaboration is also a powerful tool for us. We can pull up figures and information for everyone to view at the same time. From that, good decisions can be made on the spot. If you email, you have to wait for people to get back to you.”</p>
<p>For Moraitis, clear communication has always been vital but in the past it depended heavily on people travelling locally and interstate, which became a sizable cost burden.</p>
<p>Polycom’s Country Manager Australia and New Zealand, James Anderson, said Moraitis was hungry to secure reliable, effective technology.</p>
<p>“People might have the impression that the fresh fruit and vegetable business is fairly low tech, but that’s certainly not the case at Moraitis. They have a driving principal that everything they do can be done better, and it shows.”</p>
<p>“Moraitis came to us when their first provider turned out to be too costly, and now they give Polycom the credit for the recent boom in their business, which feels really, really good.”</p>
<p>Given the success of their video conferencing network, Moraitis plans to expand the system to their South Australian operation later this year.</p>
<p>“The Polycom system has exceeded our expectations, and we’ve found that Polycom either does it properly or not at all. On top of that, we expect to see a return on our investment in just 18 months,” Paul Moraitis said.</p>
