Acterna Showcases an Industry First at CCBN 2004: The RSAM 5600
- Remote Service Analyzer Module (RSAM) Allows Remote Access, Analysis, and Monitoring of Forward Path Signals at Remote Hub Sites and Headends

Beijing, China and Hong Kong: Thursday, March 25th 2004 - Acterna today announced the Asia Pacific introduction of the Remote Service Analyzer Module (RSAM) 5600, the industry's first forward path analyzer with an integrated web server that provides interoperability with field meters such as the DSAM via a web browser, and also works conveniently with a PC web browser. Acterna will exhibit this innovative new product at China Cable Broadcasting Networks 2004, booth #1A1108 in Beijing from March 23-25 2004.

The new RSAM-5600 is a rack mounted, AC powered unit used in conjunction with the new RAS-100 Remote Analysis Software -- a software web server installed on a user’s PC. Combining the RSAM-5600 and RAS-100 software, users gain many significant benefits over traditional analysis techniques. The core benefits include: remote, web browser interface which saves considerable time and money by eliminating the need to drive to remote hubs and headends; quick comparison of field-to-headend results; ability to remotely isolate network problems and determine the source of errors thereby reducing unnecessary truck rolls and providing a faster turnaround for signal analysis for headend and field technicians; and single-button daily digital quick check of system performance. All of these benefits are meant to insure and protect an operator's revenue stream by proactively testing and analyzing the VOD, HSD, and analog physical layer. The RSAM-5600/RAS-100 combination is also designed and priced to meet the needs of remote hub sites, and can be affordably deployed in all remote hubs.

Expected to save network operators and engineers significant time by reducing the need to drive to remote sites in testing a system's integrity, the RSAM 5600 also supports field technicians in areas of troubleshooting, isolating and fixing problems by giving them access to headend results in the field. The SNMP alarming feature of the RSAM 5600 allows integration with existing OSS and NMS systems for alarm management and notification. The RSAM 5600 will also improve the efficiency of technicians by reducing unnecessary truck rolls, and proactively ensuring that revenue-generating streams are working properly.

"Acterna continues deliver communications test and network management innovation, and we’re proud to launch the RSAM 5600 -- a truly cutting-edge monitoring and analysis tool that underscores our leadership in supporting cost efficiency and network improvements for today's cable networks," said Rob Flask, product marketing manager for the RSAM product line.
"The RSAM 5600 capabilities greatly improves and increases the reliability of service quality for both digital and analog content by allowing technicians to perform complex monitoring and troubleshooting remotely," said Flask.

"Without the RSAM 5600, technicians are forced to drive to remote hubs to check system integrity, or, in some cases call back to a second technician to gain any useful information," he continued. "Now, outages can be pinpointed and corrected the first time without having to write additional trouble tickets or wait for someone to check the originating source, and even better, the SNMP threshold alarming feature easily integrates with OSS and NMS - helping find and fix problems before customers complain."
