BMC Software awarded Australian Government’s Certificate of Recognition as new sales support centre opens in Melbourne

<p>MELBOURNE - (12 March 2004) - The Hon Daryl Williams, Federal Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, today presented BMC Software with a Certificate of Recognition for its ongoing commitment and contribution to the Australian ICT industry. The award ceremony included the official opening of the company’s new Asia Pacific sales support centre in Melbourne, which is designed to complement the company’s sales and customer support efforts around the region.</p>
<p>“We’re delighted to receive recognition from the Australian Government for our contribution to the local ICT industry,” said Chua Tock Ling, Asia Pacific Vice President, BMC Software, during his visit to Melbourne to officially launch the centre. “Since 1997 BMC has invested more than AU$31 million in the Australian ICT industry. The opening of the Asia Pacific sales support centre today marks our ongoing commitment to the industry’s development.”</p>
<p>Melbourne was selected as the best location in Asia Pacific for the sales support centre due to its ready supply of highly qualified, multi-lingual IT graduates, the quality of its IT and telecommunications infrastructure, as well as the stability of the Australian economy.</p>
<p>The new sales support centre was established to help BMC Software extend its reach into new and emerging Asian markets. Sales support staff identify and develop sales leads with small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-market companies, then refer these opportunities through to local channel partners or BMC sales teams depending on the skills and resources required by the customer. The centre also provides support to BMC’s enterprise sales teams across the region, lending additional resources for large-scale projects as well as managing low volume and point product sales to smaller departments and subsidiaries within these organisations.</p>
<p>“The sales support centre will help us to compete more aggressively in the small to medium business market while also supporting our sales efforts in the enterprise space,” said Mr Chua. “We expect more than 60 per cent of our Asia Pacific revenues to be driven through indirect channels within the next 2 years and the sales support centre will be critical to help us achieve this objective.”</p>
<p>In addition to the centre’s sales function, staff also provide technical pre-sales and post-sales customer support across Asia Pacific.</p>
<p>BMC’s sales support centre currently employs 25 Australian citizens that speak 12 Asian languages including Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Malay, Hindi, Hokkien, Hakka, Shainghaienese, Korean, Tamil and English. The facility is projected to grow to 40 people by the end of 2004.</p>
<p>BMC Software launched its first sales support centre in Houston, United States in 2000, which has since grown to a 125-strong team responsible for the entire North and Latin American regions. A sales support centre was also established in Dublin in 2001 to service the European, Middle Eastern and African markets.</p>
