NetScreen Introduces Unified Policy and Configuration Management Product for Globally Distributed SSL VPNs

 • 10 February, 2004 11:30

NetScreen Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: NSCN) today announced availability of the NetScreen-SA Central Manager product for its SSL VPN appliances, a unified policy and configuration management product for administering multiple, globally distributed SSL VPN gateways.

The NetScreen-SA Central Manager gives customers a cost-effective option for global SSL VPN administration by automating costly and error prone management tasks. The product facilitates administration through an intuitive Web-based user interface that allows easy device configuration, security policy, and software update dissemination to multiple gateways and clusters regardless of their location. Software updating can be conducted in minutes through an automated process that intelligently propagates the information to cluster peers and conducts the upgrade with minimal network disruption, enabling maximum system uptime. The NetScreen-SA Central Manager also simplifies network provisioning through granular views of network usage and performance.

“As SSL VPN adoption expands to address the secure connectivity needs of mobile employees, strategic business partners, and customers, enterprises continue to augment their networks with additional gateways worldwide,” said John Girard, research vice president at Gartner, Inc. “Broadened SSL VPN adoption heightens the importance of centralized configuration and policy management of an SSL VPN deployment.”

Additional key NetScreen-SA Central Manager features include:

· System Dashboard – generates detailed network utilization and performance information with capacity utilization graphs and system-wide metrics shown per device or per cluster and updated in real time. A “snapshot” feature also allows system configuration archiving.

· Push Configuration – propagates information from one cluster to another cluster(s) in the network.

· Backup and Restore – saves local backups of system/user configurations.

· Customizable Filtering of Log/Monitoring Data – provides rich filtering and formatting of the system logs that can be categorized as event logs, user access logs or administration access logs.

· Minimum Downtime Upgrade of a Cluster – executes a continuous cluster-wide upgrade, while keeping at least one node in service the entire time.

· Deterministic Cluster Recovery – assigns ranks to cluster nodes so in the event of a disruption in member communication an automated recovery process will resolve configuration conflicts by ensuring that the node with the highest rank propagates the correct cluster state.

“NetScreen’s management product for our Secure Access appliances uniquely addresses the requirements of distributed SSL VPN deployments that we see from a number of our large enterprise customers,” said Krishna “Kittu” Kolluri, general manager of NetScreen’s secure access products. “As an industry leader, we are excited to offer the NetScreen Secure Access Central Manager for single-point policy and configuration management for multiple SSL VPN gateways.”

Availability

The NetScreen-SA Central Manager is expected to be available Feb. 16 for the Secure Access appliances running the Neoteris® Instant Virtual Extranet (IVE) 4.0 version platform or higher.
