HP Australia maintains strong results

Hewlett-Packard Australia has announced its results for fiscal year 1996, reporting revenues jumped 22 per cent (to $880 million), while total orders increased 23.8 per cent (to $960 million).

The company reported strong growth in areas such as its Intel processor-based NetServer business, the multi-user Unix HP9000 range and the HP OpenView family of network management software.

Bruce Thomson, managing director HP Australia, said that while his company - along with others in Australia and New Zealand - has experienced difficult trading conditions, it was able to contribute to the overall company results.

"It's significant that most of our growth in Australia has been in the areas of the emerging technologies, such as broadband telecommunications, the Internet and professional services, both consulting and operational," Thomson said.
