Lotus showcases new Domino features

Amid the hype and fanfare of its annual Lotusphere conference last week, Lotus demonstrated a plethora of new features it plans to incorporate into the next version of Domino.

Scheduled for release in the second half of 1998, the enhancements included in Domino 5.0, the next version of Lotus' messaging and collaboration server, will centre on four key areas: e-mail; collaboration; application and development; reliability, availability and scalability.

In the e-mail arena, Lotus has plugged the holes in standards support from version 4.6, incorporating native HTML/MIME, S/MIME and LDAP version 3.0 protocols. Domino 5.0 also "completes the convergence of cc:Mail and Domino", officials claim, with a number of administration functions poached from cc:Mail among the enhancements made to the product.
