IBM certifies Norman Virus Control v5 for Lotus Domino

 • 22 January, 2004 16:33

Norman ASA, provider of Norman Virus Control and content security solutions software, today announced that it has received ‘Runs with Lotus Domino’ certification from Lotus, which is promoted in the Global Solutions Directory, a global solutions showcase of all IBM PartnerWorld partner solutions.

Norman Virus Control is a virus scanner that integrates with Lotus Domino, IBM’s advanced mailing system, to ensure that business critical information is efficiently protected and data is checked for viruses, trojans and other malicious code.

Mr Mark Karpinski, managing director of Capital Security Solutions, the Australian distributor of Norman security software, said that while email is a standard communications medium in business today, it is also the most widespread way of distributing malicious programs such as viruses and worms.

“The need to scan for malware on the email server is therefore crucial. This certification reinforces Norman's ability to deliver simple, easily deployable and manageable antivirus solutions that perform exceptionally well in data-intensive Lotus Notes and Domino environments,” Mr Karpinski said.

Using Norman Virus Control, users gain continuous protection of Lotus Notes databases while in use, with secure data and transactional integrity. A robust and automated process safely scans data for malicious code in the Lotus databases.

Norman Virus Control enables administrators responsible for a Lotus enterprise environment to manage a growing messaging and collaboration infrastructure in a secure way. Norman offers a readily available and scalable antivirus solution that also includes the Norman patent-pending SandBox v2 technology for additional security of Lotus Domino server data.

Norman's SandBox technology makes it possible to catch viruses and other malicious software before virus signatures have been released. The Norman SandBox technology represents a milestone in non-signature based detection of new, unknown viruses. This unique technology stops and quarantines the malware attacking the machine based on its behaviours even before any virus signature file is created for this specific threat.

“We are very pleased to receive this latest certification mark,” said Mr Karpinski.

“This achievement reinforces Norman's track record of delivering secure, flexible and manageable antivirus software that fully leverages an entire IT infrastructure, from the workstations and mobile users to servers and gateways.”

Norman ASA, a leading developer of security and antivirus software solutions, is a member of IBM's Partner World for Developers, enabling the company to promote its software solutions to customers through the worldwide Global Solutions Directory.
