Funding for e-business projects

The Federal Government’s Information Technology Online (ITOL) program is underway. Funding of up to $200,000 per project is available for fresh e-business solutions.

Since 1996, more than $9.4 million has been allocated to 94 projects in areas as diverse as agriculture, health and pharmaceuticals, building and construction, automotive and welfare.

The ITOL program encourages the take up of innovative joint ventures in e-business.

The program will be administered by the National Office for the Information Economy (NOIE).

Currently funded ITOL projects include:

*Hortilink Mango E-Solution — will introduce electronic tracking into the fresh mango supply chain, from the grower, through the packing house, the distributor and market agent, and improving industry response to market requirements;

*The Sugar Industry Network — will put in place a spatial-based information exchange tool to provide climatic, crop and forecasting information for sugar cane growers, harvesters, transporters and mills in North Queensland;

*Digsafe — will provide a customised, Internet-enabled system and geographic information system asset location programs to enhance the existing telephone service, Dial Before You Dig. The service provides plans for anyone excavating with a view to minimising disruption to consumers and expense for utilities.

Applicants must submit electronic and hard copies of the completed application form, activity-based budget and letters of support the closing date for the round.

Applications received by the closing date are assessed according to an established process. The ITOL team will rate the proposed project against both the eligibility and merit selection criteria.

The rating is mainly based on the written application, supporting budget and letters of support.
