Vic Govt opens thin client doors

Victoria’s Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) is opening the door for thin client computing across the state’s government departments with the release of a tender for up to $9.9 million worth of Citrix-based thin client terminals, support and maintenance.

The tender is for hardware, management software, support and maintenance. The initial contract is for one year, with an option to extend for three years. The tender closes on January 29.

While the initial tender is for DSE, which also provides IT services to the Victorian Department of Primary Industry, once the hardware and software licensing pricing and contract is in place, any Victorian State Government department or agency will have the option to buy under it.

Other state governments have already taken up thin client technology. Vendor Wyse Technology has a presence in a joint venture between gas company AGL and ACT Electrity and Water (ACTEW).
