Microsoft to Give Plato more punch

With SQL Server 7.0's release looming, Microsoft has juiced up the accompanying SQL Server OLAP Services, formerly code-named Plato, with new features and ISV (independent software vendor) support, company officials said last week.

The online analytical processing (OLAP) server will add write-back, member properties, and distributed query resolution functionality, said group product manager Doug Leland.

The new features were released two weeks ago to a handful of ISVs and will be more widely distributed in the coming days, Leland said. SQL Server 7.0 went into its third beta testing on June 29 and is expected to be released in November.
