A torrential downpour backed up by some pretty impressive thunder and lightning forced a break in play last week when 60 Microsoft staff and partners took to the fairways of the Royal Pines golf course.
But following a quick livener in the hotel bar, everybody made their way back out onto the beautifully manicured course to complete what was undoubtedly the most eagerly anticipated track of this year’s Microsoft Australia and New Zealand Partner Conference. And the brave souls were well rewarded when the much talked about Gold Coast sun made a welcome appearance on the back nine holes.
To make things a little more interesting, all teams played one hole with a hockey stick. Admittedly, this made little difference to the standard of golf registered by some players but at least there was much less chance of being struck by lightning when swapping a metal stick for a wooden one.
At the end of the day it was caps off to the winning team — Microsoft’s Jane Huxley and Melissa Deily, Brett Campbell from OBS and Jamie Potter of SDM.
This caused some difficulty for Jane, who had been pencilled in to present the prizes. Onlookers said she seemed to have trouble shaking her own hand and patting herself on the back while collecting the trophy … from herself.
