Amtex introduces immersable optical trackballs

SYDNEY, December 15, 2003: Amtex Electronics today announced a new IP68-rated optical trackball capable of operating when smeared with ultrasound gel, immersed in water, dunked in coffee or even at the bottom of a beer glass!
Several patents are pending for the new device, which uses optical technology to increase reliability and sensitivity while reducing the moving parts count to just one: the ball itself!

Designed for use in marine, industrial and medical applications, an anti-vandal feature means the new units are also suitable for use in Internet kiosks and other public places.

The trackballs are shipping now with a 50mm ball and either USB, PS/2 or Quadrature connections. 25mm, 38mm and 75mm-sized balls will follow in early 2004.
