Ingram Micro Australia has inked a deal with Hutchison to distribute the 3 mobile business solution, a move that aims to attract resellers living in the telco and IT arenas.
The rollout of IT&3, which is now part of Ingram Micro’s new 3 channel program, gives resellers access to new mobile data offerings, and opens up new revenue streams for both companies, Ettore Alterisio, Ingram Micro’s business manager of volume products, told ARN. He said the deal with Hutchison is the first of its kind for Ingram.
Alterisio said it helps resellers, particularly VARs from the IT side of the fence, get over the hurdle of peddling complex telephony solutions by offering a simple yet powerful wireless business communications tool. "The solution touches the convergence of IT and telecommunications," he said, adding he expects the convergence market to take off in the next six to 12 months.
He said a key feature of the IT&3 offering is the 3 for business service plan, which gives users access to voice call and SMS functionality. "We're not just selling a handset, but a complete wireless solution with data functionality," he said.
The IT&3 solution gives resellers account management, sales order capture and mobile activation services. VARs can pitch the benefits of video calling to customers, he added.
Ingram Micro plans to market the solution to large corporate accounts and the SME space, he said, adding 150 partners will be enrolled in the channel program in January (when training sessions are slated to roll out in Sysney, Melbourne and Brisbane).
For Hutchison Telecom, meanwhile, the deal beefs up its reseller base, said Bill Dimopoulous, national business channels manager, in a statement.
The move to join forces helps resellers on the path to convergence, he said, indicating 3 mobiles combines a phone, data modem, still and video camera, music and games player and a personal digital assistant. Resellers can start peddling the current solution, the A920, and will have access to more handsets down the road, Alterisio said.
Essentially, 3 allows users to send and receive emails, record video and picture messages. It also allows users to personalise interactive mobile 3G services.
Back in August, meanwhile, Hutchison signed eXeed to distribute its 3 handsets and services, inviting resellers to join the telco’s partner program.
