Good oil for software users
MELBOURNE - If your customers are tired of using buggy software, help is at hand.
CyberMedia has released a localised version of Oil Change, its software package that automatically updates personal computer software by seeking out drivers, patches and upgrades on the Internet. The company says Oil Change can reduce technical support calls by automatically upgrading buggy software.
The new version has been localised to recognise updates to Australian, UK and other English language Windows applications.
It works by scanning the user's PC to determine what software and drivers are resident, then checks in with the Oil Change server to determine what updates are available. The list generated by the scan is kept resident on the user's PC, and Oil Change does not archive a copy of this list.
Other features include automatic installation, multiple undo and the ability to schedule updates to occur at night. Oil Change is available from CyberMedia distributors with an RRP of $59.95, which includes the Oil Change service for one year.
