Coles Myer subsidiary, Harris Technology, has began stocking Acer desktops, notebooks, handheld PC’s, servers and storage solutions.
Acer has appointed Harris Technology as a Gold channel partner, the highest rung on its direct partner ladder.
Acer channel manager, Greg Mikaelian, said the reseller was a great fit for Acer.
“Harris’ strength in small business should compliment our strengths in education and government,” he said.
Harris Technology already sells HP and IBM desktops, notebooks and servers, as well as Ipex desktops, Fujitsu, NEC, Sony and Toshiba notebooks and O2, Palm and Toshiba handhelds.
In the short-term Harris Technology will order and transact with Acer via its online trading hub, APec.
In the second half of 2004 Mikaelian expected the vendor to have integrated its online e-commerce system with the back-ends of its key distribution partners, resellers and retailers to allow for seamless transactions between systems.
Harris Technology becomes one of more than 30 Gold Acer partners that survived a recent cull by the vendor. Acer decided, in the interests of forming a more targeted and committed channel, to double the targets it expected of its reseller partners in order to meet Gold status.
“The targets were always too small, and we had to raise the bar to meet our own growth targets,” Mikaelian said.
As a consequence, more than 20 Gold partners were asked to either step back to become Silver partners (who still buy direct from Acer, under slightly different conditions), or to buy through Acer’s distributors.
“Our new Acerlink system has given us the opportunity to expand the business we conduct through distributors,” Mikaelian said.
