The great and the good of the IT industry gathered in Gladesville last week to flip burgers, enjoy a chilled drink or two in the sunshine and, more importantly, launch the fourth annual Putting IT Back campaign.
The barbecue was hosted by children from Giant Steps School as a thank you to the industry leaders that will drive the fundraiser over the next few months.
All proceeds raised go to the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a non-profit organisation that runs several programs to distract children and their families from illness, and Giant Steps, which runs a life skills program for autistic children.
The afternoon was also the first outing of Microsoft Australia managing director, Steve Vamos, as ambassador of the fund. The main focus of his new role is to rally support throughout the IT industry, encouraging companies and their staff to give generously.
“Participating is not only a great opportunity for the IT industry to give back to kids in need, it also provides a great buzz on an individual level,” Vamos said.
“A sense of fun, love and security are three things every child deserves and to be able to make even a small contribution towards ensuring these special kids experience those things is very rewarding.”
