2006: The Year Microsoft Appears as a Potential new Goliath on the Secure Content Management Horizon, Says IDC

 • 23 June, 2006 15:26

NORTH SYDNEY, 23rd June 2006 – Symantec has been the Goliath of Secure Content Management (SCM) for some time. Fighting with Symantec for share in the Australian market have been Trend Micro, McAfee, CA and Sophos. This year however marks the entrance of a new but familiar software giant into the SCM market. Microsoft has announced it will release its OneCare consumer security service in the U.S in June 2006 and has targeted SCM as a market that it wants to compete in. No announcement has yet been made as to when OneCare will be available in Australia.

IDC's latest study, "Australia Secure Content Management Competitive Analysis, 2006" (Doc # AU321304N), features a detailed competitive analysis of the vendors mentioned above. It also gives insight into developments, trends and challenges in the increasingly competitive SCM market in Australia.

"To be successful in this highly competitive market, vendors need to consistently improve and innovate their technology, business and go-to-market strategies and partner relationships. They also need to address both the business and technology concerns of their customers," says Patrik Bihammar, Market Analyst, Security Solutions, IDC Australia.
