Stringent shopping centre planning standards have held up the opening of Next Byte’s latest store, which was scheduled to open today. The store at Sydney’s new Westfield Bondi Junction will now open after the lucrative Christmas period.
Next Byte director, Adam Steinhardt, said the new Mac store has been pushed back to Stage 2 of the Westfield development. It would now open in February or March.
“A lot of effort is required to fit in with the Westfield black book design standards,” Steinhardt said.
Under Westfield rules, Next Byte was required to employ a design company.
While Stage 1 shops are now open, Bondi Junction Westfield is still under construction.
The development was working on extremely tight deadlines. The expected turnaround time for shop fitouts was three weeks for half a shop, Steinhardt said.
The Bondi Junction location would open up Sydney’s eastern suburbs for the Mac market, he said.
Apple Centre Taylor Square is the nearest competitor.
The store will be Next Byte’s 17th location. Its latest store is in Melbourne’s Bridge Road.
