Three products to become one
Network Associates has outlined its strategy and product roadmap to consolidate antivirus protection, intrusion detection, and firewalls into a single product. The company intends to fuse system and network security into a singular platform. Aiming to reduce the number of software agents required, it has begun to combine the functions of McAfee VirusScan, Personal Firewall, and its new Entercept Desktop product. Director of McAfee Security product marketing at Network Associates, Ryan McGee, said combining the functions would take about 18 months, and when complete, a single software platform would be capable of performing all the functions that once were handled by three discrete software packages.
Melbourne to host software testing conference
The Software Testing Australia/New Zealand Conference will take place in Melbourne and Wellington next month. Organised by Software Education Associates, the two-day conference is designed to provide the Australian software testing community with practical advice and real-life case studies. The conference will also include in-depth workshops covering current software testing issues, tools and techniques. The workshops cover a range of topics including test-driven development, realistic estimating test projects, test automation, and open-source testing tools. This year’s speakers include US testing experts Ross Collard, Rex Black and Bret Pettichord, local testing guru Kelvin Ross, and New Zealand’s testing consultant Don Mills. The conference will takes place on November 27-28 at Eden on the Park in Melbourne.
