BigAir announces $29.95 p/m 1Mbps wireless broadband service

 • 02 September, 2004 15:46

A "real" broadband service: four times the speed, and more than double the included download of similarly priced ADSL services

BigAir Australia Pty Ltd (BigAir) has added heat to the broadband pricing war with its new home broadband service. The BigAir home broadband service, at just $29.95 per month, is the fastest and best value broadband connection available to consumers at this price point.

BigAir's home broadband service is four times as fast and includes more than double the download capacity for the same price as most other $29.95 ADSL connections. Additionally, the BigAir service is available in many 'broadband black holes' where ADSL and cable services are not - estimated at around 30 percent of homes across Sydney.

The BigAir Home Broadband Starter Plan offers speeds of 1 Mbps and includes 500MB of download capacity for just $29.95 per month. Additional downloads are charged at just 8c per Mbyte - almost half the cost of other ADSL services.

Australia’s leading wireless last mile service provider, BigAir is able to offer such competitive broadband services as the company’s advanced wireless network completely bypasses the Telstra local loop. This means BigAir has the flexibility to set pricing, features and services for customers.

BigAir joint Managing Director, Jason Ashton said that BigAir offered consumers faster broadband, better value, and the highest levels of service and reliability.

“We are in the unique position of being able to provide Australia’s most advanced broadband service to the residential market as we own and operate our own independent network. We offer a minimum of 1 Mbps as our entry-level product as we do not believe that 256 kbps or 512 kbps delivers a ‘real’ broadband experience. In addition our service is symmetric offering upload speeds at 1 Mbps making it suitable for more demanding applications such as video conferencing. It’s about time consumers were given a real broadband option,” Jason Ashton said.

BigAir home broadband services offer flexible monthly plans with speeds of 1 Mbps and above and up to 10,000Mb monthly download included on certain plans. Additionally, BigAir home broadband services can be up and running within a BigAir building within a number of hours instead of having to wait weeks to be connected using traditional copper-based services such as ADSL.

Since launching earlier this year BigAir has been rapidly expanding its network across Sydney, offering wireless broadband services to homes and small and medium sized businesses, along with offering its "enterprise grade" (99.99% availability) high-capacity services to larger businesses. BigAir’s business-grade services offer speeds up to 10 Mbps and it is planned to offer speeds up to 100 Mbps in the near future.
