SCO continues assembling critical Web Services components through strategic partnerships and development efforts; SCO introduces SCOx Application Substrate to Web Service-enable SCO’s Unix operating systems and provide solid foundation for next-generation business solution development

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sydney, August 19th 2003

The SCO® Group (SCO) (Nasdaq: SCOX), a leading provider of business software solutions, has announced the delivery of key components of its SCOx Web Services initiative. The SCOx initiative, announced in April, will provide the technology and programs companies need to grow their business, connect to customers and integrate with suppliers using specialized Web Services.

The components announced include SCOx WebFace, Ericom PowerTerm Host Publisher, SCOsms Web Services (APIs) and SCObiz Web Services (APIs), all of which provide critical pieces of the SCOx Application Substrate (SAS). The SCOx Application Substrate is a foundation for building next-generation business solutions, combining SCO’s own Web Services software components and products with partner-supplied technologies to create Web Service-enabled functionality for SCO UNIX and other operating systems. Other SAS components will include technologies related to Web Services security, orchestration, encapsulation, etc.

“Earlier this year, we announced our intent to create a technology framework for integrating Web Services into our operating systems – as an overall growth strategy for our company,” said Darl McBride, president and CEO, The SCO Group. “The SCOx initiative is now beginning to take shape as we work with partners and our own team to assemble integrated components of SAS [the SCOx Application Substrate]. We believe that our resellers and developers will easily see the measurable benefits of Web Services.”

SCO is also providing Web Services support components and toolkits specifically designed for SCO OpenServer and UnixWare. These components include additions and updates for Apache and Tomcat, XML parsers and toolkits for SOAP programming in C/C++, Java, PHP and Perl.

SCOx is built on industry Web standards and enables easy integration with any Web services-enabled solutions including Microsoft® .NET and SunOne J2EE applications.
